The Last Witness: A Reflection on Humanity’s Legacy

It’s the end of the line for humanity,

And I’m the last one standing, filled with grief.

I can’t help but feel the highs and lows of our legacy,

The good and the bad, the joy and the pain, disbelief.

From nothingness, we rose to incredible heights,

A quest for truth and meaning, we soared and flew.

We went beyond our limits and reached the greatest heights,

Through science, art, and music, we made our dreams come true.

But with every step, we left a trail of sorrow and woe,

We couldn’t shake off the darkness that we brought.

We balanced on the knife-edge, in a constant ebb and flow,

Through the light and the dark, we survived, fought.

Despite all our mistakes and missteps,

I can see hope in our enduring legacy.

Perhaps, someday, someone new will take the steps,

And our dreams will live on, in a new century.

Here I stand, the last to remember it all,

Treasuring every moment of our journey.

Looking to the future, no matter how small,

Hoping that humanity’s legacy will forever be worthy.
